TRIP UPDATE

England was great!

My trip to Bath and London proved to be quite worthwhile. The city of London has been struggling with a political race for the mayor’s office. This weekend for the first time in (probably) two millenniums of existence, a Muslim was elected Mayor of London town. The once expansive British Empire has brought an amazing array of nationalities and religions into England and London proper.

Years ago when I traveled by the Tube (subway) to the northern end of London, I came up the steps to the street and thought I was in Baghdad. Women in burqas and long black hijab dresses were shopping on a street lined with food being sold out of wooden crates that looked like the market in Amman, Jordan. London had become a truly international city.

Sadig Khan ran a campaign of hope against the politics of fear promoted by Zac Goldsmith. Khan’s father had been a bus driver in London and never dreamed he could become Mayor. We can all rejoice when a platform of positive values defeats a racist smear approach.

America may end up being faced with such a choice.

NOW TO THE BIG NEWS!

HAVE YOU BOUGHT My latest BOOK YET?

Bible Lands: an illustrated guide to scriptural place  is at your local book store.

You will enjoy reading the ancient history behind today’s headlines stories in the Middle East. Not many Americans have been in Syria before the current civil war, but I have insights that I gleaned during my time in Damascus and the whereabouts. The book is packed with photographs and pictures of a multitude of scenes.
